On Zeeburgereiland in East Amsterdam. A huge new building project is finished. It's called the Urban Sport Zone. Not just is it one of the biggest skateparks of Europe it is also beatifully decorated with custom Delft Blue tiles produced by Tile Bakery. The Artwork depicted on the tiles is called "An outcast Sanctuary" designed by Iris & Arno Coenen. And the track itself is made by Danish design bureau Glifberg & Lykke and build by SkateOn.
It is expected that this new skate park will atract international and profesional skateboarders. The beatifull artwork spans twelve different objects and the side of the skate pools is decorated with a 130 meter stretch of little tiles. The work consists of more than 40.000 small and big tiles. Skillfully applied by Carin van Dongen, specialized in the installing difficult tiles and art objects.
"An outcast Sanctuary" is a monumental work of art. It is one of the eyecatchers of the newly developerd neighborhood of zeeburgereiland.
